This month's spotlight is on Matt Ricks.
Next month, Matt has been selected for an ICU rotation at the #2 Hospital in the country, Barnes Jewish Hospital. This will be a great opportunity to learn from the best in the field.
Dr. Ricks will work hard in this opportunity as he will be on call every third night, but it is a great opportunity that will add greatly to his credentials and his knowledge base in his future work as a general surgeon.
Matt continues to be the gourmet chef. Some of Matt's clientelle's "must have" favorites include: Home made Coconut Ice Cream, Chicken Spedinin, Pho (A Vietnamese dish) consisting of thinly sliced beef that is cooked by placing it in a boiling hot soup broth, similar to Tsukiyaki in Japan. On a rare occasion Matt can be seen beating one of his friends in a friendly X-Box competition.
Matt continues to be a ward missionary. He is often found on Sunday's helping to spread the gospel and bringing friends and neighbors to a knowledge of the gospel. Matt and Michelle find interesting and creative ways to make friends outside the normal church circles and to share this pearl of great price with new contacts that they make.
Matt is also a devoted father and husband. Matt and Michelle have a family devotional each night before they put their girls to bed. The girls have learned many hymns and primary songs and love to sing them together after which they read from the children's version of the scriptures.
Mary and Mark are going to St. Louis March 6-11th and more information on the Ricks' family will be forthcoming.
Just so all the grandchildren know we will be using our secret word. Please don't let anyone know the secret word, it is just for Grandpa and the grandkids to know (Pineapple). By knowing this word you are admitted to the secret club house made by stretching a sheet over chairs. It is probably one of the coolest clubs in the planet and is ranked high along with going on imaginary national car tours with Grandpa on the front room sofa, which also requires knowing the secret word to participate. Again, keep this word very confidential. (Pineapple)
Our best wishes to Dr. Ricks and his family whom Grandma and Grandpa look forward to seeing. Weather cooperating and Matt not getting called in for emergency surgeries, Dr. Ricks and Grandpa may get a chance to get out on the golf course this coming Saturday.
Love,
Grandpa
